Newbattle at War a history of the Parish at war

Now featuring Scots in the Great War Living History Society.

During the war large numbers of men from local football teams joined the armed forces, several would march off to join together, as the war dragged on there was less passion for the game and indeed one of the Newtongrange teams, United, folded in 1917 as 43 of it's members and committee had signed up, after the war Newtongrange Star would carry on Newtongrange United would walk into the history books as most of it's remaining players threw their hand in with the Star. Other men played for Dalkeith Thistle and for various professional teams in Scotland and England.
