About Me

Simon Moston:

Husband, Dad, Surveyor and volunteer guide to the Somme when work permits!

Tried for yrs to discover anything about my wife's Granddad Pte Tom Arnot of 6th RS and got nowhere.

Quick email to John and ...'oooooft'... he was part of the 6th that transferred to 1/8th in Nov 1914!

So...particularly interested in 8th RS!

Pte Tom Arnot (Wee Tam) - was seriously wounded (shot in the thigh) at Festubert May 1915. He spent over a year in hospital. He rejoined 'the fight' by joining the RFC as a Propeller finisher in Hendon (we think).

After the war he moved to and spent most of his life in St Albans, married and had two children - both of whom remain alive!

Tom died late 1950's

It took until Jan 2013 before his story in the Royal Scots began to come alive......

Also interested in 8th RS at both High Wood and Beaumont Hamel (Somme) - particularly for a friend who's G'dad was there!
